This is a solo flute piece written in the Baroque Period (1600 - 1750). It has three movements that have different character and tempo. It is also played on the recorder.
Concerto No 2 in D Major

This is a concerto in three movements written in the Classical period (1750 - 1825). It has three movements (with tempos fast - slow - fast) and was originally written to be accompanied by an orchestra.
Cantabile et Presto
G. Enescu
This is a piece written in 1904 in the French flute style of the time. It is in two contrasting parts (slow then fast) and shows off the range and tones of the modern flute.
Le Merle Noir (The Blackbird)
O. Messiaen
This is a piece written in 1951 as an examination piece for flute students at the Paris Conservatoire the following year. It creates very different sounds to Telemann and Mozart and isn't exactly easy listening, but uses the flute's full capability to mimic the song of a blackbird.
